Jared’s racing career started in a quarter midget in 2001 at the age of 9, and he hasn’t looked back since.
He moved up to racing a Jr. Sprint at Deming Speedway in 2002 where he finished 2nd in Season Points for the year while posting 9 main event wins and being awarded Rookie of the Year status. He also won the NMSA Jr. Sprint Championship, which was a combination of races at Deming Speedway and Hannagan Speedway.
In 2003 Jared won the Jr. Sprint Season Championship after winning an impressive 16 main events at Deming. He also won the NMSA Jr. Sprint Season Championship and the Hannagan Jr. Sprint Season Championship.
In 2004, Jared raced in the 250cc Jr. class at Deming Speedway. He finished the year with 4 main event wins, Season Points Championship, and Rookie of the Year.
In 2005, Jared again moved up to a bigger car, driving in the 600cc class at Deming Speedway. Once again, he won the Season Points Championship and Rookie of the Year status. In 2005 he also qualified to compete in the Red Bull Drivers Search at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
2006 was the last year of mini-sprint competition for Jared at Deming Speedway before moving up to a full size sprint car. Once again he won the Season Points Championship in the 600cc class after posting 5 main event wins. This would be his 4th championship year in a row in 3 separate car classes. Jared set many fast qualifying times over the past several years and still holds the track record in the 600cc class for wing and non-wing shows, and the all time track record for non-wing. Jared also competed in the Clay Cup Nationals at Deming Speedway where he posted a 4th place finish in the 600cc class. He was also given the opportunity to sub for Jason Bloodgood several times in the 1200cc class and won 2 main events. At the end of the season he was voted Sportsman of the Year, Fan’s Choice. It was a very fun year!
In 2007 Jared moved up to a full-size sprint car, driving the Peterson Family owned 360 sprinter. In many ways it was a challenging but exciting year. Jared started the season at Skagit Speedway, which was the only track he was able to race at until he turned 16 in July. On July 7th Jared experienced his first flip. He was OK but lots of bent parts on the car. Jared turned 16 the weekend of the NSCS / 360 Nationals race at Skagit. On qualifying night he timed in 12th fastest out of a field of 68 cars, then finished 14th in the A main event on Saturday night on a tough track. His effort resulted in a write-up in the Everett Herald. http://heraldnet.com/article/20070814/SPORTS/108140013 . Jared's next race was in Elma on August 26th, which was his first race away from Skagit Speedway, and another spectacular show. He timed in 6th fast in a field of 43 cars, finished 4th in his heat race, then started and finished 2nd in the main event behind Roger Crockett. On August 29th Jared competed in the Kasey Kahne Foundation Race at Skagit Speedway, where he won his heat race against Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne then finished 9th in the main event. Jared's first 360 race season came to an official close after two nights of racing in the Fred Brownfield Memorial event at Elma. He qualified 5th fastest both nights and transferred into the A main on Saturday night where he finished 16th.
In addition to racing the family 360 sprint car in 2007, Jared also filled in for several drivers in the 600cc and 1200cc classes at Deming Speedway, however the highlight for Jared at Deming was winning the 2007 Clay Cup Nationals in the 600cc class. It was a hot Western Washington weekend and Jared ran a near-perfect race all three nights. In a field of 35+ cars, Jared set fast time on Thursday night, then started in back and finished 2nd in his heat race, earning many passing points. He started 14th and finished 2nd in the main event, earning top points for the night. On Friday night, Jared time in 2nd fastest then started in back and finished 3rd in his heat race. He started 13th and finished 5th in the main event, once again earning top points for the night. On Saturday night Jared won the Match Race giving him pole position for the main event. Given a choice, however, Jared chose to start outside pole and led all 40 laps. It was awesome, and many thanks go to Steve and Logan Forler for putting Jared in a perfectly prepared mini-sprint.
In 2008 Jared ran the ASCS Northwest series which gave him the opportunity to race against the best in the Northwest. In July Jared participated in his first Speedweek, racing in Oregon and Washington, and gaining a lot of experience. He made the A main in five out of six nights and had a top finish of 6th at Banks. Jared’s top A-main finish for the year was 2nd. He finished 7th in ASCS NW points for the season and won Rookie of the Year honors. His point standing in ASCS NW gave him the opportunity in August to race at Knoxville in the 360 Nationals and the Brodix Tournament of Champions. What an awesome place! Unfortunately Jared’s wing fell apart in qualifying sending his car straight into the wall in turn 3. The crew put another car together so Jared could compete in the main events on Saturday and Sunday night giving him some lap experience on the big track.
The 2009 season looks promising. Jared posted his first A main win at the season opener at Skagit on April 18th then went on to win the A main at Elma’s season opener on April 25th. We plan to run at Elma and Skagit this year and would like to include several ASCS races and possibly Speedweek, budget permitting. Stay tuned for results………………
